Rochelle Canteen at Kvadrat x Raf Simons, Salone 2019
Rochelle Canteen has been doing a week long residency for Kvadrat at Salone del Mobile, Milan Design Festival 2019, finishing this Sunday 14 April. Kvadrat, in their sixth collaboration with designer Raf Simons, have launched Raf's 'No Man's Land' installation at Garage 21, via Archemide 26.
Serving classic canteen menus for breakfast, lunch through to the Aperitivo moments. Wallpaper Magazine said "The cafe strikes a serene balance in comparison to the somewhat eery installation, with bistro style tables decorated with fresh flowers and gently lit from above by the factory’s skylight. Between the snacks and the atmosphere, spending a few hours during the hectic week feels like time well spent."

Of his collaboration with Rochelle Canteen Raf said “And we’ll have a cafe, and a space for social interaction. It’s not a showroom, it’s an environment, a place of inspiration,” he continues, before stopping himself abruptly. “I hope it’s as good as it sounds. It’s so much more massive than anything we’ve done before.”
The same Guardian interview with Raf stated that "the Milan presentation will centre on three demountable houses by architect Jean Prouvé – La Maison Tropicale flatpack designs developed by the Frenchman in the early 40s to alleviate housing crises both at home and in the French colonies. Simons plans to install them in a garden full of flowers created by the Belgian florist Mark Colle, and turn their interiors into both domestic spaces and atelier-type workshops, to tell the stories of the three new fabrics he has created.
